As the children's book says, everybody poops. For a lot of people, the thought of having a bowel movement at someone else's home is not only embarrassing, it can cause anxiety. But when you have to go, you have to go. Read on to learn how to have a bowel movement at a loved one's home.

Scope out the available bathrooms as soon as you arrive if you think you may end up needing to have a bowel movement during your visit. Generally, there will be one bathroom close to the entertaining area and another bathroom more removed. Your goal is to get in to the bathroom furthest away from where everyone else is.
Time your bathroom trip to coincide with someone else using the closest restroom if possible. As soon as you notice it is occupied, ask where the restroom is. Your host will direct you to the alternate restroom.
Close and lock the bathroom door. You don't want someone accidentally walking in on you.
Check for toilet paper. If there is only a little bit left on the roll, locate a spare roll. Ask your host for help if you cannot find the extra toilet paper.
Take a deep breath and relax. Remind yourself that bowel movements are natural and everyone has them. Take your time and do not stress about someone hearing you. If you are in a bathroom close to other people, a well-timed cough will cover any unfortunate splashing.
Use the toilet paper sparingly. You don't want to clog the toilet.
Flush the toilet when you are finished. If necessary, do a second flush. It is much better to be a double flusher than to leave any remnants. Also, check for marks in the toilet bowl. If you created any, swipe the toilet bowl with the toilet brush. Wipe off the toilet seat if you drip any water on it.
Utilize bathroom spray if it is available. One quick squirt of spray is all you need. If your host happens to have matches in the bathroom, light one and quickly extinguish it. The smell of the match will mask any odor you made. Run the match under cold water and dispose of it. Be careful and don't light anything on fire.
Wash your hands slowly to let any odors dissipate. Tidy up the restroom so that it is in the same condition that you found it.
