How to Do a Two Week Detox

Detoxing is a way to rid your body of toxins that come from eating unhealthy foods, smoking and drinking. The Master Cleanse diet, created by Stanley Burroughs in his book "The Master Cleanser," is an extreme method of detoxing that involves removing food from your diet and only consuming liquids for two weeks. As always, consult your doctor to find out if your body is healthy enough for the Master Cleanse detox diet.

Instructions

    1

Purchase the above ingredients from a health-conscious grocery store. It is important to buy fresh ingredients for your diet, as part of the detox is supplying your body with vitamins B and C.

    2

Prepare your body for detoxing by following the "ease-in" guidelines. While easing in to your extreme diet is not required, it does help your body adjust to not having food. The "ease-in" period consists of three days; the first day you eat only fruits, vegetables and salads, followed by juicing the fruits and vegetables the second day. Consuming juiced fruit and vegetables on the second day is beneficial as it prepares your body for the liquid diet. The third day of the ease-in period calls for drinking two liters of freshly-squeezed, organic orange juice mixed with one cup of water and two tbsp. maple syrup. Drink the orange juice mixture throughout the day.

    3

Mix the ingredients listed above for the Master Cleanse together in a large pitcher. You can put the mixture into two 30 oz. bottles to carry around with you.

    4

Drink the entire 60 oz. of the mixture each day for 10 to 14 days. The ingredients for the Master Cleanse diet will replace your food intake and should be consumed over the course of a day. It is best to drink it around the same time you would normally eat.

    5

Mix one tsp. of unrefined sea salt with 30 oz. of water and drink it to flush out your system. This step should be done twice a day. This saline wash will have a laxative effect, so you should stay near a bathroom until it works.

    6

Follow the "ease-out" guidelines once the two week period is complete to avoid indigestion and constipation when you resume eating solid foods. Follow the "ease-in" process in reverse. The first day, drink two liters of orange juice mixed with one cup of water and two tbsp. maple syrup. The second day, consume juiced fruits and vegetables or broth. The third day you can eat salads, vegetables and fruit, after which you can resume a normal, healthy diet.
