What to Eat While Doing a Body Cleanse

When you cleanse your body you are ridding it of waste and other impurities. A body cleanse is a great way to gain energy, lose weight and even clear up your skin if you've got acne issues. Certain foods should be at the top of your list when you are planning to do a body cleanse. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Fiber-Rich Foods

Fiber is ideal for a body cleanse because its purpose is to run right through your system (it is not digestible) and scrape out the waste from your colon. So the more fiber-rich foods you eat, the better. Add whole grains, like multi-grain or 12 grain breads, barley, oats and bran (as is found in many cereals) to your diet. The skins of fruits like apples and pears are high in fiber, as are turnips, beets and brown rice. Beans and peas are also very high in fiber and can help get your system moving quickly.

Fish and Lean Meats

Red meats (like steaks and burgers) and meats high in fat are usually the cause of a blocked up system. When you are doing a body cleanse, if you want to continue to eat meat, only eat very lean white meats. That includes chicken without the skin, non-fatty fish (like tilapia and flounder), turkey and tuna. Leave out the sauces, mayonnaise and other condiments as they may contain unhealthy preservatives and fat that could impede your body cleanse diet.

Leafy Green Vegetables

Leafy green vegetables are high in chlorophyll, a substance that helps to clear the digestive tract, and eliminate toxins from your body and dietary fiber. Eat plenty of broccoli, asparagus, spinach, kale and dark lettuce (like Romaine) regularly while doing a body cleanse.

Yogurt

Yogurt contains friendly bacteria beneficial to your digestive tract. They also help activate the vitamins in the food that moves through your system and breaks down toxins. These bacteria overwhelm the bad bacteria in your intestines and colon, and facilitate your cleansing process. So eat at least 1 cup of yogurt every day during your cleansing. Sauerkraut contains the same friendly bacteria and is made of cabbage, another vegetable ideal for a body cleanse diet.
