The Master Cleanse Step-by-Step

The Master Cleanse Step-by-Step

There are numerous weight loss and detox programs on the market today, all of which promise ultimate results. Detox, unlike dieting, is typically used for cleansing purposes rather than weight loss. The intended purpose of a detox program is to cleanse the liver of harmful toxins accumulated over time from the food, beverages, and medicines we consume daily. Preservatives, food dye, mercury, and other minerals can cause a breakdown in the liver and cause malfunction. Natural cleansers, such as the Master Cleanse program, can be ideal in restoring the body to better function and health.

Instructions

    1

Before starting the Master Cleanse, wean yourself from all of your trigger foods -- those foods that provoke intense cravings such as sugar, salt, caffeine, and simple carbohydrates. Doing so will make the process easier to endure, particularly within the first seven days, which tend to be the most challenging.

    2

Stay on the cleansing diet for 10 days or more. Drink 16 ounces of distilled or purified water followed by 8 ounces of the Master Cleanse lemonade concoction 6 to 8 times daily in place of solid food. Consumption of the lemonade is the initial step of the Master Cleanse, and elimination is the second.

    3

Add 1 rounded tsp of pure sea salt to 20 ounces of purified spring or distilled water. Drink the entire amount. Repeat this process twice daily. This mixture serves as an eliminator and may be used in tandem with or alternated with a natural laxative, preferably in a tea form. For stronger elimination, find a reputable colon cleanser containing psyllium husk which is available in most health food stores.

    4

Take 3 days to gradually incorporate solid food back into your diet when you have finished the cleanse. Just as you should ease into the detox by first weaning yourself from trigger foods, you should ease out of the detox gradually. Drink orange and vegetable juice on day 1 instead of the lemonade concoction. Drink additional liquids and eat one pureed meal on day 2. On day 3, eat pureed foods and soft foods such as mashed potatoes, soup, and oatmeal. Returning to your old eating habits immediately following a detox is not recommended.
