Weight Loss Using Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse has many names associated with it: the Lemonade Diet, Cayenne Pepper Diet, Lemon Cleanse and Maple Syrup Diet. Although is has been around for years, celebrity endorsements continue to make the Master Cleanse a popular weight loss plan. While any cleanses or detox diets have benefits, using the Master Cleanse for long-term weight loss may reduce the health and well-being of any person.

What Is the Master Cleanse?

    Many people use the Master Cleanse to detox the body and drop a few excess pounds. Eating foods poor in nutrition increase the amount of toxins in the body, so using a detox is ideal in cleansing toxins and improving the state of health. Weight loss using the Master Cleanse is inevitable, however it is often only water weight and muscle that will return once normal foods are introduced back into the diet.

    To create the Master Cleanse mixture, combine the following for a full days consumption: 64 ounces of water, juice of 4 lemons, 12 tablespoons Grade B maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Mix the ingredients together and drink eight 8-ounce glasses throughout the day. Drink pure water between glasses of the lemon mixture and continue the process for at least ten days.

    In the evening, it is recommended to drink a salt water mixture to keep the digestive tract flowing. Combine one liter of room temperature water and one tablespoon of sea salt and mix thoroughly. Drink the entire solution each night to cleanse the intestines and colon.

Master Cleanse and Weight Loss

    Since the Master Cleanse is comprised only of the lemon mixture, weight loss occurs quickly. Health professionals do not recommend detox diets such as the Master Cleanse for weight loss due to the extreme calorie restriction and lack of nutrients, minerals and vitamins received while drinking only lemonade.

    While on the Master Cleanse, only the lemonade mixture, detox or laxative teas and salt water are consumed, which help detox the system and clean it out thoroughly. The Master Cleanse is recommended for 10 days, in which no solid food is consumed.

    With the lack of nutrients on the Master Cleanse, people undergoing the detox experience a loss of muscle mass, lowered metabolism, dizziness, fainting and even a reduction of healthy bacteria in the digestion tract caused by the salt flush.

    Before doing the Master Cleanse for weight loss, it is recommended to speak with your doctor to discuss any possible side effects that may occur from the lack of food. While you do lose weight, once the cleanse is over pounds often return quickly.

Finishing the Master Cleanse

    Once you are ready to stop the Master Cleanse, it is important to ease back into regular food to prevent digestion issues and nausea. When incorporating food that contains fiber back into daily meals, drink plenty of water to keep from getting constipated. On the first day after the cleanse, drink only orange juice and the second day you may have broth or fruit and vegetable juice. Day three includes whole fresh fruit and veggies and by day four you are ready to eat regular food.

    Weight loss using the Master Cleanse might help to lose one or two pounds, but many find that when they ease off the diet, the weight comes back quickly. Liquid diets often cause individuals to lose water weight or muscle mass only, leading to weight gain once they are finished.
