How to Cycle Off Atkins & Onto Master Cleanse

The Atkins diet is a popular "low-carb" diet that is largely built on the restriction of carbohydrates and the consumption of meats, cheeses and vegetables. The Master Cleanse, however, is a fasting diet that lasts anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks. During this time you drink water and a special lemonade preparation in an effort to detoxify and purify the body. While on the Atkins diet, you are accustomed to consuming meats and processed foods. When switching to the Master Cleanse, it is crucial to take time to prepare your body and mind for the radical changes ahead.

Instructions

Getting Ready

    1

Four days prior to beginning the Master Cleanse, begin to ease in to the diet by removing meat and processed foods from your daily diet. For 2 days, simply focus your daily menu on fresh fruits and vegetables and eat until you are satisfied.

    2

On day 3, begin to juice the fruits and vegetables that you have been eating for the past two days. This is vital to begin preparing your body for the liquid diet that you will be following and it will enable the nutrients to enter your bloodstream quickly. If you do not have access to a juicer, you can make broth instead.

    3

On day 4, juice fresh oranges and mix the juice with water to taste along with 2 tablespoons of maple syrup to support your caloric needs. This should make 2 liters of orange juice to drink throughout the day.

    4

Your body is now ready to begin the Lemonade Diet (Master Cleanse). Each morning, prepare your daily lemonade mixture. Combine 14 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 14 tablespoons of maple syrup, at least one-half teaspoon of cayenne pepper (or as much as you can tolerate) and 2 liters of water. Divide the mixture into two 1-liter bottles. Take the mixture, along with a 1-liter bottle of water, with you throughout the day. Whenever you feel hungry, drink some of your lemonade mixture followed by water. This will keep you feeling full throughout the day.
