How to Shorten Your Period Cycle Naturally

How to Shorten Your Period Cycle Naturally

Every woman has a slightly different menstrual period cycle, but most women wish it were shorter and lighter. If you want to shorten the length of your period naturally there are some things you can do that may help.

Instructions

    1

Exercise regularly throughout your cycle, and continue to exercise while you have your period. Fit women tend to have shorter periods with lighter flows. Women who are extreme athletes with no body fat may not even have a monthly menstrual flow, but this is unhealthy and a sign of anemia. Obese and over-weight women tend to have longer and heavier periods. There is a general correlation between body fat and the length of menstrual flow.

    2

Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water each day to help shorten your period naturally. A healthy woman who is exercising regularly should drink several glasses of water each day. You should also avoid caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol to try and shorten your period naturally. Staying hydrated can also relieve menstrual bloating and cramping.

    3

Eat healthy food each day. Keep a food diary for a few months. Many women find that eating chocolate, caffeine, sugar, meat and dairy cause longer and heavier flows.

    4

Drink red raspberry leaf tea each day the week before your period and during your period. Red raspberry leaf tea is said to tone the uterus, and many women claim that is shortens their periods and makes them more bearable. Ginger root tea with brown sugar has also been used by women to shorten their periods naturally.

    5

Take evening primrose oil once each day. For some women evening primrose oil capsules are a way to naturally shorten their period cycles by one day each month, but consult a doctor or naturopath before taking new supplements.

    6

Use a menstrual cup rather than disposable tampons and pads. Many women feel that their periods are shorter, lighter, and easier to deal with when they use reusable menstrual cups, such as the Diva Cup, Keeper or Moon Cup. They will also save you money, decrease the chance of tampon-related yeast infections and are better for the environment.

    7

Schedule an appointment with an acupuncturist. Acupuncture is an effective and natural way for some women to shorten the duration and decrease the flow of their period.
