How to Clean With Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has many uses outside of food preparation and seasoning. Lemon juice can rival your average cleaning product in its ability to remove rust and stains, whiten shoes, shine aluminum and clean sinks, countertops and microwaves. Does this Spark an idea?

    Remove rust and debris from copper, solid brass or stainless steel pots and pans. Take half a lemon, dip it in salt and rub the rust off of your cookware.

    Clean your kitchen sink. Squeeze the juice out of three lemons and mix with salt until you get at a paste. Drop some of the paste into the sink and gently scrub the sink with it. Rinse your sink after scrubbing.

    Squeeze enough lemons to yield 4 tbs. of juice. Fill a 4 cup capacity bowl with 1 cup of water and the lemon juice. Place the bowl in a microwave and turn it to a high setting. Let the mixture steam up inside of the microwave. Wipe down the microwave.

    Fight stains on kitchen countertops. Pour some lemon juice on top of the stain. Wait a few minutes while the lemon juice's acid works to break down the stain. Sprinkle a bit of baking soda on top of the stain and scrub the stain away.

    Get heavy stains out of plastic storage containers by dropping half a lemon's worth of juice onto the container's stain, shaking some baking soda over it and leaving the mixture to work overnight. The next day, scrub the stain out with the rough side of a sponge.

    Whiten shoes by filling a spray bottle with lemon juice, spraying white shoes with the juice and placing them out in the sun until the juice dries.

    Shine aluminum by cutting a lemon in half and rubbing the aluminum down with one of the halves.

    Wipe down shower or glass doors using lemon juice in a spray bottle and a sponge.

    Throw a few pieces of lemon rind down your garbage disposal. Turn on the disposal while running hot water to freshen up the disposal and your kitchen.
