How to Make a Liquid Diet Taste Better

Liquid diets can be bland and boring. After a while on the diet, the presence of a straw makes you crave "real" food. Yet, with enough persistence and creativity in the kitchen, a liquid diet can be quite flavorful. If the liquid diet is based on juicing and blending various fruits and vegetables, enhancing the taste can be achieved in a number of ways.

Instructions

    1

Use only produce that you like. Many liquid dieters find the first juicing recipe and make it, regardless of the ingredients. However, a liquid diet doesn't require the use of any one ingredient, per se. Choose vegetables and fruits that are tasty by your own standards. Book recipes do not have to be literal, but interpretive. Perhaps you do not enjoy grapefruit, but love oranges. If this is the case, then use oranges if the recipe calls for grapefruits. The same logic applies to many juicing recipes, as many fruits are interchangeable. Feel free to alter the quantity of the ingredients, too.

If a recipe calls for a particularly bitter green, like kale, then spinach is a milder alternative that can offer the same health benefits. Try not to avoid greens altogether when juicing. The book, "Greens Glorious Greens" explains that essential minerals and phytochemicals found in leafy greens cannot be found in other items for juicing, like fruit.

Make healthy, yet tasty soups. Many think of soups made over a hot stove, using meat, pastas, chicken stock and other non-liquid ingredients. However, with the assistance of a blender, the possibilities for a liquid-based, healthy soup are endless. The combination of even a few ingredients can yield very tasty soups. For example, one option is blending three cucumbers and one avocado, while adding water as needed. Add a pinch of garlic salt. Substituting cucumbers with celery is acceptable as well.

Soaking cashew nuts overnight and blending them with juiced carrots or steamed broccoli is another way to make a soup that is both creamy and filling.

See resources for a list of other simple soups that use raw, healthy ingredients.

    3

Experiment with seasoning. Garlic, parsley, and season salt can all enhance the taste of liquids, especially juice concoctions made with leafy greens. Certain seasonings have numerous health benefits and should not be avoided. Garlic, according to the book, "For the Love of Garlic," lowers blood pressure, aids in blood clotting, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Other spices to use when juicing are cayenne pepper, turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, and curry powder.
