Vinegar As a Cat Repellent

Vinegar As a Cat Repellent

Most cats hate the smell of vinegar, and a simple vinegar solution can be used to repel cats. Does this Spark an idea?

Vinegar

Vinegar, or acetic acid, has been used for thousands of years as a cleaning agent, preservative, flavor enhancer, deodorant, weed killer and cat repellent. Vinegar is made from fermenting sugars in water and allowing the alcohol to turn into acetic acid.

Cats

Most cats will avoid anything that smells like vinegar. A simple cat repellent solution can be made by mixing one part water and one part white distilled vinegar.

Uses for cats

Spray vinegar solution on furniture and upholstery to ward off scratchy claws. A couple of splashes of vinegar around the garden will keep cats from ripping up plants and flowers.

Vinegar Spray

A spray bottle full of vinegar and water is great to have around when dealing with misbehaving cats and dogs. Vinegar is completely natural and safe to spray on counters, furniture and other places where pets should not go.

Other Pet Uses

Vinegar can also be used to deodorize the cat's litter box. Simply remove old litter, douse the box in vinegar and scrub clean.
