How to Properly Do the Master Cleanse Diet

The Master Cleanse Diet is formulated to rid the dieter's body of the pounds of toxins that stay in the intestines at any given time. It is a liquid diet that intends to cleanse the colon of these toxins in order to help the dieter lose weight and have fewer health problems that can be created by those toxins. Also called the Lemonade Diet, it relies on a special lemon drink as the only nourishment.

Instructions

    1

Eat less for the 3 days before you start the Master Cleanse Diet. This can shrink your stomach slightly and prepare you for going without food while on the diet. Try one meal a day for 3 days or eat smaller meals than you are accustomed to.

    2

Mix 60 oz. of water with 12 tbsp. each of maple syrup and lemon juice. Add in about a 1/2 tsp. of cayenne pepper. Stir these ingredients together to make a 1-day supply of the drink. This will be the only nourishment you are allowed each day for at least 10 days.

    3

Take a laxative pill or drink a herbal laxative tea. Both of these are allowed on the Master Cleanse diet. Because the lemon drink doesn't have any fiber, constipation can be a problem if you don't take steps to move your bowels, and constipation defeats the cleansing purpose of the diet.

    4

Stay on this diet for at least 10 days. The diet can be continued for as long as 40 days, but many dieters find it difficult to go that long on the Master Cleanse Diet without feeling fatigue.

    5

Ease slowly into eating solid food again. Eating a large meal as soon as you finish the Master Cleanse Diet can give you a stomach ache at best and painful cramping and vomiting at worst. Eat small meals for a day or two as your stomach stretches to accommodate meals again.
