Procedure of a 10 Day Master Cleanse

While there are a wide variety of cleansing regimens out there, the Master Cleanse, also known as the lemonade cleanse, is one of the most well-known cleanses and is growing steadily in popularity. This cleanse can last a little as three days, but is recommended for ten days for fully cleaning the body of all toxins that may have built up within you.

Cleanse Preparation

Before beginning the Master Cleanse, there are ingredients you need to buy and things you need to do to prepare your body for the next ten days. Buy a large number of lemons, enough for 10 days worth of lemonade, cayenne pepper and organic maple syrup. A large amount of salt should also be bought for the salt water flush. Making your first batch of "lemonade" the night before is probably a good idea, with 14 tablespoons of lemon juice, 14 tablespoons of maple syrup, 1/2 tablespoon of cayenne pepper, and 2 liters/quarts of water. A laxative tea should also be made to be drunk the night before (consult a local health food store; Senna leaf is a common active ingredient).

On the Cleanse

The cleanse diet is rather simple from day one through day ten. After drinking the laxative tea the night before and staying in the bathroom before you go to sleep, you will wake up each morning and drink your salt water flush. This entails mixing salt into a liter of water and chugging it down. For the rest of each day you will drink all the lemonade mixture you have made. Drink about two to three liters day, at least. This will provide you all the nutrients you will need while your body cleanses itself.

Coming Off the Cleanse

After ten days of flushing and drinking nothing but a lemonade mixture, you need to ease your body back onto solid food slowly. The first day off the cleanse you should drink nothing but orange juice and maybe have some soup at night. More fruit and vegetable juice can be drunk the following day, as well as a diet of soup broth. By the third day fruits and vegetables can be consumed, along with a steady amount of fluids. By the last day, a regular diet can commence, though it's better to eat healthy, live foods if possible.

Warnings

It is also important to note that the Master Cleanse, or Lemonade Diet, is not recommended by physicians or nutritionists as a healthy way to cleanse you body or lose weight and it is still considered a more fringe way to cleanse your body of toxins. Before taking on this Master Cleanse for ten days especially, contact your physician or nutritionist to ensure it's a good idea based on your health history.
