Lemon-Cleanse Directions

Stanley Burroughs formulated a cleansing diet known as the "Master Cleanse" or "Lemonade Diet" "or "Lemon Cleanse" in 1941. The lemon cleanse is a very specific cleansing diet that is broken up into three stages. It is not supposed to be a weight-reduction diet, but rather its purpose is to detoxify the body and help get rid of built-up toxins in the system and change the eating habits of those who try it.

Instructions

    Do the "Ease-In" for the first 3 days. This consists of eating and drinking only fruits and vegetables the first day. Do not eat processed foods, drinks, meat or dairy products. For the second day, do an all liquid diet with fresh vegetable and fruit juices and homemade clear broths. And for the third day, you will drink orange juice the whole day.

    Start stage two of the cleanse. This stage lasts 14 days and is quite intense. Consume 60 oz. of lemonade, Senna Leaf tea and 32 oz of saline wash every day for 14 days. Prepare the lemonade by mixing 12 tablespoons of freshl lemon juice, 12 tablespoons Organic Grade B Maple Syrup, teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 60 oz of filtered water. Place the lemonade mixture in a large glass container and refrigerate.

    Drink Senna tea and saline wash before bedtime. Make the saline wash by mixing 32 oz. of warm filtered water and 2 tsp. of sea salt. Senna tea and saline wash are laxatives that will help eliminate the toxins in your body.

    Monitor how long it takes for the tea and the saline wash to work. If you find that it is disrupting your sleep, drink them first thing in the morning or earlier in the evening. You need to be near a bathroom for a few hours after taking these two drinks.

    Keep a diary of your body's reactions to the cleanse during the second phase. Avoid weighing yourself. Fight off food cravings that may persist for the first week.

    Begin the third stage after 14 days of the second phase, but only if you are no longer passing formed stool. Your stool should be clear and viscous. If it is not, you may need a few extra days and continue with the second phase.

    Drink nothing but organic orange juice on the first day of the third stage.

    Make a soup containing any fresh vegetables you like. You can even add a little barley in the last stage of the cooking. Eat the soup slowly on the second day and just have a 4 oz. serving at a time. Your body has not eaten solid food in two weeks you do not want to overwhelm it by eating too much at a time. You can drink more organic orange juice.

    Add raw vegetables to your diet on the third and last of stage three. Eat light, small portions a few times a day. You can begin slowly adding solid food back into your diet, but avoid processed foods and do not be surprised if you have no taste for meat or other foods you liked before the cleanse.

    Continue to stay thoroughly hydrated. Drink 60 oz. of liquids a day. This can be a combination of lemonade and water or herbal teas.
