How to Make Homemade Snow Cone Syrup

How to Make Homemade Snow Cone Syrup

Homemade snow cone syrup is easy to make with only a few basic ingredients that you most likely already have on hand. If you're looking for a cold and inexpensive summer treat, try serving up some shaved ice with this homemade syrup drizzled on top. This snow cone syrup recipe yields approximately three cups of flavored syrup, and can be easily customized to suit your tastes using different flavor extracts. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Combine one cup of water with two cups granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.

    2

Continue heating the mixture until all of the sugar has dissolved, and you are left with a slightly syrupy consistency.

    3

Add one tablespoon of your extract of choice. Peppermint, lemon, and vanilla all work well, but choose the one you like best for your homemade snow cone syrup.

    4

Add a few drops of food coloring, if desired, to the syrup. Stir well to combine all ingredients, and allow the snow cone syrup to cool in the refrigerator for a few hours before drizzling over shaved ice.

    5

Store any leftover snow cone syrup in the refrigerator until ready to use again, and discard after one week if any portion is unused. Be sure to label the container if you make more than one batch of the same color.
