Uses

The all-purpose plant food can be used on flowers, vegetables, trees and shrubs. Shrubs and trees of the evergreen family such as pine should be fed Mir-Acid, another product from the Scotts company.

Feeding Large Areas

Scotts offers garden feeders that attach to the end of your hose. The water runs through the hose, over the Miracle Gro feeder packet that has been poured into the garden feeder and quickly provides 500 square feet of gardening or landscaping space fertilizer.

Smaller Areas

A scoop is provided for mixing smaller amounts in water for house plants or individual shrubs. One tablespoon in one gallon of water will cover 10 square feet of flowers and vegetables or one large bush. Use only one-half gallon for smaller bushes. For houseplants, use one-half teaspoon per gallon of water.

Formulation

The formulation is 24-8-16, representing the percentage by weight of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, respectively. Miracle Gro is high in nitrogen, which helps plant produce more chlorophyll and gives them that rich green color while encouraging faster growth. Phosphorus helps the bloom size and root development. Potassium wards off disease and gives the plant drought and cold tolerance.

Dry Mix Product

Miracle Gro also produces a Shake 'n Feed granular plant food that can be worked into the soil and lasts up to three months. One dry tablespoon of food is worked into the top 1 to 3 inches of soil or mulch and then watered to start the feeding process.
