Lemon Honey Water Remedy

Honey and lemon have long been used as ingredients in home remedies. They are most often used to soothe sore throats and suppress coughs, but some remedies also can promote weight loss. Simple remedies containing honey, lemon and water are easy to create.

Cough Suppressant

Try using lemon and honey as a cough suppressant remedy. Make a simple cough syrup by mixing 3 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 cup honey in a bowl. Add a cup of warm water to this mixture. Be sure to thoroughly mix ingredients together. You can take 1 to 2 tablespoons as needed to suppress a cough. Also, mix 2 tablespoons honey and 2 tablespoons glycerin with the juice from a hot lemon to make a remedy for cough. Boil the lemon for 15 minutes before extracting juice.

You can also use honey and lemon as a remedy to soothe a sore throat. Combine cup water and 1 cup honey in a saucepan over a low heat. Make sure you stir the mixture until the consistency becomes syrupy. Add 2 tablespoons dried hyssop and 1 tablespoon lemon juice to the mixture. Allow your ingredients to simmer for 30 minutes before removing from heat. Take up to 2 tbsp. daily to relieve sore throat pain. You can also mix honey with cayenne pepper as a remedy for throat inflammation. Take a pinch of cayenne pepper and mix with 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon honey and a dash of water. Honey and lemon work to coat and soothe throat pain, while the cayenne pepper is believed to attract blood cells that fight infection.

Weight Loss

Honey and lemon may also be a beneficial remedy to weight loss. Try mixing one teaspoon raw honey with 2 teaspoons lemon juice in a glass of warm water. Drink this tincture on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning. Honey allows fat to be used as an energy source for your body.
