How to Increase Blood Pressure Naturally

How to Increase Blood Pressure Naturally

Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, can be just as dangerous as high blood pressure, or hypertension. Although there are prescription medications you can take to raise your blood pressure, there are also ways to raise your blood pressure naturally. See if you can raise your blood pressure on your own before getting a prescription from your doctor. Anything under 90/60 mm Hg blood pressure is considered low.

Instructions

    1

Increase your salt intake. Add small amounts of salt to your meals every day to increase your overall blood pressure. Consult your doctor before starting a higher salt diet, as in most cases salt can raise blood pressure dramatically.

    2

Wear compression stockings. People that suffer from low blood pressure may also suffer from blood pooling in the lower extremities. To improve blood circulation, wear compression stockings--especially at night and when you are inactive.

    3

Add more water to your diet. People with low blood pressure often suffer from dehydration. Water also increases blood volume, which increases blood pressure.

    4

Eat small meals. Blood pressure will drop suddenly after you eat a large meal. Try to eat small portions constantly throughout the day to keep your blood pressure raised.

    5

Drink more caffeine. Caffeine can raise blood pressure by as much as 14 mm Hg. Consult your doctor before increasing your caffeine intake drastically, but several cups of coffee or tea per day may raise your blood pressure enough to make a difference.
