How to Know if You Have a Food Intolerance

How do you tell if your symptoms are due to a food intolerance? This article will clear up some of the misconceptions that surround food intolerances, and help you understand the symptoms that surround them.

Instructions

    1

    Are You Overweight?

Food intolerances commonly lead to weight gain. If you have a particular food that you crave, eat very often, and feel hungry soon after eating that food, you may have a food intolerance to that specific food. Water weight gain of as much as 3 pounds in a day can occur. The good news is that when you eliminate the foods that you are intolerant to, you will very likely experience weight loss at a record rate!

    2

    Stomach Upset

If you are having diarrhea soon after drinking milk or eating any food, you may be intolerant to that food. Other stomach related symptoms include excessive gas, bloating, and stomach pains. If you notice stomach upset after eating certain foods, consider food intolerance as the culprit.

    Other Symptoms

There are other, less obvious symptoms of food intolerance. For example, headaches, joint stiffness, arthritis, brain fog, lack of concentration, anger, aggressive attitude, and hives can be caused by a food intolerance.

A food intolerance can sometimes be hard to identify. While most symptoms show up soon after eating the bothersome food, symptoms can be delayed by as much as 48 hours. In order to identify what foods are bothering you, you may need to keep a food diary. Write down everything you eat and any symptoms you are experiencing. Try an elimination process by cutting out different foods for a while, until you identify the food that you are intolerant to. Some to start with are milk, wheat, gluten, corn, soy, potatoes, rice, nuts, and tomatoes.
