How to Cleanse Your Computer

When a computer is used for awhile, it builds up a cache of temporary files and other software leftovers that slow the computer down. When these files build up to a certain point, the computer operates much more slowly than if the files were properly removed. Additionally, many programs install little portions of themselves to run automatically when the computer starts, which slows the computer down even further. Cleaning out all the unnecessary files and removing the startup programs cleanses the computer and makes it run much faster.

Instructions

    1

Download and run CCleaner. A free version is available on the company's website.

    2

Check "Windows Error Reporting," "DNS Cache," "Start Menu Shortcuts," "Desktop Shortcuts," "Old Prefetch data" and "IIS Log Files." Leave the remaining defaults checked.

    3

    Click the "Run Cleaner" button.

    4

    Click the "Registry" button.

    5

    Click "Scan For Issues."

    6

    Click "Fix selected issues."

    7

Click "Yes." Save the registry file.

    8

    Exit the program.

    9

Press the Windows logo key and "R" simultaneously.

    10

Type "msconfig" without quotes and press "Enter."

    11

    Click the "Services" tab.

    12

    Check "Hide all Microsoft services."

    13

Uncheck unnecessary programs, such as reminders and updaters.

    14

    Click the "Startup" tab.

    15

Uncheck unnecessary programs, such as reminders and updaters.

    16

    Click "OK."

    17

Click "Restart." When the computer restarts, it has been cleansed and operates faster.
