How to Eat on the Maple Syrup Diet

The "maple syrup diet" or "master cleanse," is more of a fast than a diet. It was designed as a detoxification process for individuals looking to begin (or continue) a healthy lifestyle. The diet requires that the individual consume only the "master cleanse" recipe for a minimum of ten days, but no more than two weeks. The "master cleanse" diet is an extreme mental and physical challenge for most people who attempt it but, with a strong will, it is doable.

Instructions

    1

Mix together 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of grade B maple syrup, 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 8 ounces of water. This is the "master cleanse" drink that you will consume for the next ten or more days of the diet.

    2

Drink six to twelve 8-ounce glasses of the "master cleanse" drink every day. Drink it whenever you are hungry, as this is your only food for the duration of the cleanse. When you are not drinking the cleanse mixture, only drink pure, filtered water.

    3

Take an herbal laxative every night before you go to sleep to prompt a bowel movement in the morning. The "master Cleanse is a cleanse, after all, so its goal is to rid your body of any and all impurities.

    4

Continue the regimen detailed above for a minimum of ten days. On the first day after you finish the cleanse, only drink orange juice. On the second day, restrict yourself to liquid foods such as juices, soups and broths. On the third day, reintroduce solid foods into your diet, but avoid processed foods. This slow easing process will help adjust your body to normal foods and prevent you from becoming sick.
