How to Fast for a Day

Fasting is an age old tradition used for health purposes and religious practices. Sometimes people fast but have no idea how to go about it and end up endangering their health. There is a healthy way to fast--you just need to follow these steps and you'll be better off afterward. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Stock up on protein and carbohydrates the day before. You need carbohydrates to keep you going and give you energy for the next day; eat carbohydrate heavy foods the night before. Protein is good to maintain your regular functioning and strength. The perfect meal the night before might be some fish, chicken or beef with a salad and potatoes or pasta.

    2

Drink lots of water the night before and begin drinking water as soon as you wake up on the day of your fasting. If you start to feel hungry, have a glass of water to fill up your belly and make hunger subside.

    3

Avoid exercise and physical exertion. The lack of food will mean you don't have as much energy or strength. By avoiding exercise, you will be allowing your body to live off the previous day's food without cutting into stored fat and muscle, which can cause you to pass out or become ill.

    4

Sleep. Take naps if you start to feel weak or are just tired. Lack of food will make you tired and cause you to start dragging. Listen to your body and just allow yourself to rest.

    5

Drink water. This can't be emphasized enough. Drink tons of water to fill your body and provide some nourishment. Thats it. Good luck!
